The “Muddy Grass” Test: Why This Pink Bronco is Our New Favorite Family Member
If you looked at my backyard right now, you’d see a lot of brown grass, some patches of melting snow, and two of the happiest kids on the planet.
We’ve reached that awkward time of year where it’s not quite winter anymore, but it’s definitely not summer. The ground is “thawing,” which is just a fancy word for “it’s a muddy mess.” Usually, this means my 4-year-old and 6-year-old are stuck inside, staring at their tablets and driving me crazy.
But that changed last week when our FIRST RIDE ON Pink Bronco arrived. I wanted to share our “warts and all” experience, because if you’re like me, you want to know if these things actually work in a real backyard—not just on a perfect, flat showroom floor.
The “I Need to Play NOW” Factor
As a parent, the worst thing in the world is a giant toy arriving and then having to tell your kids, “Wait until tomorrow for the battery to charge.”
The FIRST RIDE ON team must know parents well, because the Bronco arrived partially charged. We spent a little less than an hour putting it together (which was surprisingly simple!), and as soon as that last screw was in, the kids were out the door. No waiting. No tears. Just pure, instant joy.
The “Off-Road” Reality Check
This is what I was most nervous about. Our lawn isn’t a golf course. It’s bumpy, it has inclines, and right now, it’s wet.
I watched as my 6-year-old took the wheel with her sister in the passenger seat. I thought for sure it would slip or get stuck in the soft, thawing grass. It didn’t. The car handled the asphalt, the concrete, and the messy lawn without missing a beat.
We even have a slight incline in the yard. I braced myself for the car to crawl to a stop, but it powered right up. There was a tiny decrease in speed, but it was barely noticeable. Seeing it handle the weight of two kids (ages 4 and 6) while navigating a hill was the moment I realized this car was the real deal.
Sibling Bonding (And the Speed Trade-off)
I have to be honest with you: when you put two kids in there, the car is notably slower than when just one kid is riding. But honestly? I prefer it that way. It gives them time to talk, to laugh, and for my 6-year-old to practice her “student driver” skills without going too fast. Watching them navigate the yard together in that bright pink truck has been the highlight of my month. It turns “playing outside” into a team sport.
Safety That Just Makes Sense
I’m a bit of a safety nerd. I love that the controls are straightforward:
- One Pedal: When they take their foot off, the car comes to a fairly quick stop. No hunting for a brake pedal in a panic.
- The Remote: I still keep the remote in my hand “just in case.” If they get too close to the fence, I can take over. It gives me that extra layer of “Mom-Peace.”
- High/Low Power: We started on “low” while they learned the ropes, and now they’re “high power” experts.
A Real Talk Moment: The Small Hiccup
I want to be 100% real with you. When we were assembling the car, one of the plastic pieces meant to guide a screw for the seat was broken. For a second, I was frustrated.
But here’s the thing: the rest of the car is built so well that we were able to work around it easily. It didn’t affect the safety or the fun. In a world of mass-produced toys, sometimes a little plastic piece might have a rough trip in the mail. But because the FIRST RIDE ON quality is so solid overall, it was just a minor detour, not a dead end.
The Verdict: Bring on the Summer
My kids are already planning their “Summer Road Trips” (which mostly involve driving to the end of the fence to look for bugs).
If you’re looking for a ride-on that can actually handle a real backyard—not just a flat sidewalk—this Pink Bronco is it. It’s tough, it’s beautiful, and it’s the first thing my kids ask for every single morning.
FIRST RIDE ON didn’t just sell us a car; they sold us a reason to get outside, get a little muddy, and make those “big kid” memories that stay with you forever.
